Century plant (Agave americana) care tips & plant information
Care tips
- Position: Full sun. Sheltered.
- Watering: Agaves are very drought tolerant. Water sparingly during growing season. Do not overwater. Keep plant almost dry during winter. Protect from excess water during the winter period by covering the plant.
- Hardiness: Frost hardy if kept almost dry. Protect from severe cold and rain.
- Pruning: No pruning required. Handle with care since it's leaves are spiny. We recommend clipping off the tips of the worst spikes at the end of each leaf with a pair of secateurs.
- Soil: Very well-drained. Loam, gravel or sand.
- Fertilisers: Feed regularly during growing season with fertiliser. There is no need for fertiliser during the winter period.
