More about Italian Terracotta pots & care tips

handmade Italian terracotta pots

More about Tuscan Terracotta pots (Vasi)

  • Classic handcrafted Terracotta pots from a family run pottery in Tuscany, Italy.
  • The pots (Vasi) are traditionally made by highly skilled potters in Siena where the local clay is of a very high quality.
  • When fired at 970°C for 40 hours the pots take on this wonderful warm rose coloured hue. The high firing temperature makes the pots more frost resistant, solid and very suitable for the British climate. Terracotta means "fired earth".

    Care tips

  • Clay pots will age beautifully. If weathered for many years they will gain in character. With time moss and algae will colonise the pot. This is part of the natural ageing process for a clay pot.
  • For extra caution protect your pots from frost by moving them into a shed or wrapping them up with fleece, bubble wrap or sacking. This is especially important for pots with delicate surface decorations.
